Philodendron ‘Cherry Red’
Philodendron ‘Cherry Red’ is a bold and colourful hybrid prized for its vibrant foliage and compact growth habit. New leaves emerge in striking shades of bright cherry-red to crimson, gradually deepening to rich burgundy before maturing into glossy dark green with a reddish cast. The self-heading rosette form, combined with its dramatic colour transitions, makes it a standout ornamental choice for collectors and interior plant styling.

Origin: Hybrid cultivar; developed through philodendron breeding programs, likely from Philodendron erubescens lineage.
Growth Habit
- Evergreen perennial with a self-heading, clumping form (non-vining).
- Leaves are broad, typically 15–25 cm long.
- Plant remains compact, usually 40–60 cm tall and wide in indoor conditions.
- Moderate growth rate, faster in warm and humid environments.
Light:
- Performs best in bright, indirect light to maintain vibrant red coloration.
- Tolerates medium light, but coloration may fade to greener tones.
- Avoid direct sun, which can scorch delicate new foliage.
Watering:
- Keep soil evenly moist, watering when the top 2–3 cm feels dry.
- Consistency is key; both overwatering and underwatering can stress foliage.
Humidity:
- Prefers moderate to high humidity (60–75%) for best growth and coloration.
- Will adapt to standard indoor humidity but may develop minor leaf edge browning.
Temperature:
- Optimal range: 18–28°C.
- Sensitive to cold; avoid exposure below 15°C.
Soil:
- Requires a chunky, well-aerated aroid mix.
- Good drainage is essential to prevent root rot.
Fertilisation:
- Apply a balanced liquid fertiliser every 4–6 weeks during the growing season (spring–summer).
- Reduce feeding in cooler months when growth slows.
Pruning & Maintenance:
- Remove yellowing or damaged leaves at the base.
- Wipe leaves occasionally to keep their glossy texture and bright hues visible.

We deliver by hand across Sydney 5 days from 7:00am - 7:00pm.
Your delivery will arrive within 1-3 business days after the order is placed outside of public holidays.
Please note a minimum order of $60 is required to be eligible for hand delivery service.

If you have specific delivery instructions please advise us, if you don’t advise us and no one is home and it is safe to do so your order will be left in a safe place, if it is unsafe your order will be returned to our Newtown Studio.
If it is a gift, it's best to let someone know so they don't miss the delivery.
Please note: Sydney locations are determined as locations within a 25km radius of our store.
Courier service
Shipping to states including NSW and Sydney is available except for NT, WA & TAS as these states have quarantine laws that don't allow us to directly ship there.
We now offer free National Shipping via Courier and Auspost for orders over $120, capped at $25, total order must reach $120 after discounts to be eligible.
We do not offer express shipping.
Please note due to the nature of sending live plants, pots & plant care some items may not be available for shipping due to size and weight, if an item appears unavailable on our website this indicates we can't ship to you.
Plant Daddy has partnered with Auspost & Sendle to have your plants, pots and plant care delivered to you on time, safe and secure. Once your order has been placed and confirmed you will receive confirmation once your order is ready for shipping. Generally once you place an order it is shipped within 2-4 days.
Please be patient as we are a small business we pack and send to you directly.
We send parcels via courier service MONDAY - WEDNESDAY to limit the amount of time your plants will spend inside a box during transit. All orders placed after Wednesday will be sent the following Monday - Wednesday.
It is your responsibly to read and understand our policy, we cannot be held responsible for delays during shipping.
All claims made for missing or damaged orders via courier need to be raised directly with either Auspost or Sendle with the tracking information sent. We suggest to take photo's to include with the claim. As we send orders via a third party we are unable to investigate any claims.
Plant Daddy cannot submit claims on behalf of customers.
If you have not left clear instructions or permission to leave the parcel it may be returned for re-delivery, please note we are not responsible for this or will be held liable. Auspost or Sendle can assist with any delivery enquiries.

In 2020 our first store opened in Newtown just steps away from where it all started! We're located on Australia Street surrounded by some amazing food and drinks spots and other quirky stores all run by locals for locals!
